UGC NET 2026 Overview

UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) determines eligibility for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges.

UGC NET is conducted twice a year in 83 subjects. Paper 1 (Teaching & Research Aptitude) is common; Paper 2 is subject-specific. JRF fellowship provides ₹31,000–₹35,000/month for 5 years of research.

Qualifying UGC NET is mandatory for Assistant Professor posts in most central and state universities. JRF holders can pursue PhD with financial support.
